The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) collaborated with KOMPANIONS to digitize and enhance their underground metro construction training using Virtual Reality. We developed an immersive VR walkthrough of the under-construction Sadar Bazar underground metro station using the client’s BIM model, and created a detailed simulation of the construction sequence—from ground breaking to tunneling.
This module is now used to educate engineers, boost safety awareness, and streamline training for large-scale underground infrastructure projects.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is India’s leading urban mass transit operator, responsible for planning, building, and managing metro systems across Delhi and other major Indian cities. Known for its scale, efficiency, and innovation in infrastructure development, DMRC handles some of the most complex urban transport projects in Asia. With safety, precision, and engineering excellence at its core, DMRC has become a benchmark for modern rapid transit systems globally.
DMRC was managing the development of the Sadar Bazar underground metro station—an engineering-intensive project with a multi-phase construction process. Stakeholders needed a way to visualize the construction flow before execution, and on-ground engineers required safe, repeatable training to understand the build sequence.
Although DMRC had detailed BIM models, there was no interactive medium to translate that data into immersive, hands-on experiences for real-world understanding and safety planning. Traditional site tours or presentations lacked engagement, repeatability, and risk-free training options.
We converted the BIM model of the Sadar Bazar metro station into an interactive VR environment. Engineers and stakeholders could now virtually walk through the under-construction site, gaining better spatial awareness and hazard identification without setting foot on the real site.
We built a phase-wise VR simulation that allowed engineers to train on every step of the underground construction—from excavation and piling to tunneling and interior setup. Each stage was designed to be interactive, guided, and repeatable.
Infrastructure training is often high-risk, expensive, and time-bound. DMRC’s use of VR with KOMPANIONS shows how BIM and immersive tech can reshape urban project training—making it safer, smarter, and far more effective. This model can be replicated across future metro projects, large-scale infrastructure builds, and civil engineering curricula.
